Fix a "Misrepresentation" suspension on a Shopify store

The error

Misrepresentation

What it means

Google suspended your Merchant Center account (and disabled every product) because it decided your store does not present you or your products in a way it considers accurate, realistic and trustworthy. This is an account-level enforcement action, not a single-product fix. Google treats Misrepresentation as an egregious policy violation, so in most cases the account is suspended on detection without a prior warning. Until you resolve it and pass re-review, none of your products serve in free listings or Shopping ads.

Why it happens on Shopify

Misrepresentation commonly hits new or low-trust Shopify stores. Frequently reported triggers are a store still showing placeholder theme text, no reachable contact information, missing or hard-to-find refund, shipping and terms pages, a business name that does not match across the site, checkout and payment processor, and offers that read as too-good-to-be-true. Google reviews the whole storefront, not just the product page, so an otherwise valid feed can be caught by a thin or templated site.

How to fix it

  1. Publish clear, easy-to-find Refund/Return, Shipping, Terms of Service, and Privacy pages, and link them in the footer. Shopify can generate baseline versions under Settings, Policies.
  2. Add a visible Contact page with a real business name, email, and ideally a physical address or phone, and make sure that name matches your domain, checkout, and payment descriptor.
  3. Remove placeholder theme copy, lorem ipsum, and dead links, and confirm the store is not password-protected when Google crawls it.
  4. Once the storefront is complete and consistent, open the account issue in Merchant Center and click Request review. Reviews typically take up to seven business days.
  5. Do not create a new Merchant Center account to escape the suspension; Google can link accounts and a fresh account is likely to be suspended again.

Misrepresentation is an account-level policy. Because it is treated as egregious, suspension is usually applied on detection without a prior warning. It is one of the most common reasons new Shopify stores see every product disabled at once.
